My Students

What first motivated you to read? My classroom library needs a drastic upgrade in order for students to have choice and learn how to effectively read a variety of text. Four Nooks would enable my classroom library to grow at a fast pace, be relevant, and spark motivation for struggling readers.

In my 12 years of experience, I have never worked with such amazing Colorado 5th graders.

The 80 students that comprise this class are respectful, imaginative, and eager to learn and grow each day. We are a Colorado public charter school that receives less money per pupil than most anywhere in our great state. The challenges that our students face in regards to the lack of resources is apparent and daunting. Nevertheless, our students are excellent achievers because of our school's strong cultural values and commitment to the best education and curricular practices. More than ever, I want my students to be 21st century learners. This means that I want students to be critical thinkers, problem solvers, innovators and users of the most current technological tools today. Our school is celebrating its 10th year and is proud to say that our test scores rate among the best in our district. Our school truly puts our children first in all aspects of policy and instructional decisions.

My Project

Imagine thousands of books, magazines and other reading material at your fingertips. No paper, ink, or any pages to turn. With just a few clicks, books are available in instant time. This is today's reality and my students demand the best learning tools for their academic and personal growth. The small set of Nooks that I am requesting will enable children to access a wide selection of age appropriate text that is current and engaging. Students today are finding a love for reading again due to the Nook and other ebook products. A Nook set in my classroom will instantly cause my classroom library to grow and remain current in a space and cost effective fashion. The Nook center is essential to my reading center because it offers a quick way to differentiate reading levels due to the wide variety of text that is available at your fingertips. A Nook set will make a huge impact on all of my amazing 5th grade readers.

Together we can make a difference in the lives of amazing students.

Project Book Nook will empower my students because it will give them the opportunity to access the most current text in an instant. Currently, our school library is unable to provide the most relevant text choices to our older students. With your support and generosity, you can turn on the light for a struggling reader. With your support, life long readers will be born. I sincerely hope to make Project Book Nook a reality this year.
