My students need a document camera so I can demonstrate proper formatting of written math work and, even better, so I can share their excellent work with the whole class!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Help me praise my students! I walk six miles a day in my classroom, and I often single out student work as "beautiful!" I want to pick up that piece of paper and show it instantly to the room, for example, "This is *exactly* what I'm looking for! Notice how clear each step is, and how the answer is boxed?"
My students are wonderful: polite, concerned about each other, willing to work hard, interested in music, games, cell phones, even math (on the right day).
We're fortunate that our city is economically and ethnically diverse. Many of my students are in one of our academies, preparing for a career in health, fine arts, culinary arts, performing arts, or business.
My Project
I have haggled and hoarded resources to put together a technological bright spot in a district that doesn't provide much technology for students. I have built a 10-station LAN in my room. I've set up an overhead and an LCD projector (using my own laptop) that I use in tandem for interactive presentations. I use Geometer's Sketchpad for animated math demonstrations. I share my portable smart pad with the students, so they can share a little bit of their work on the wall.
I need a document camera to supplement this. With the ELMO, I'll be able to take the written work of one student and share it with the entire group, pointing to especially well-done work in real-time. The student who produced the work will get public praise, and the other students will see what their peer group is capable of.
My kids are great, but they don't know their times tables, they subtract on their fingers, and they are deathly afraid of fractions and negative numbers.
They need *more* practice with everything, and they need immediate feedback when they get it right. With a document camera, I will be able to provide that feedback. Our school does relatively well in math, compared to the rest of our district and to California in general, but I know we can do better. Thanks for helping.
