Get These Kids Reading: Anything and Everything

My students need 23 book titles to enhance the reading on various levels. The tornado destroyed our library and my supply completely so we are slowly rebuilding.

My Students

Our students lost the majority of their school in a tornado. We were able to save a few books but the library was one of the areas totally destroyed. My resource area was another one of the areas destroyed as well.

My students live in rural area and we are a Title 1 school.

When we lost our library and reading room, we we left to salvage what we could and do take in donations from various areas. The students have been very open to the fact that we are doing the best we can with what we have to work with right now. I have chosen a variety of books so that I can start to replenish the area where the children come for extra-reading help. I service grades K-6 currently and in the new building we will have grades K-8. It is vitally important to our community and our students that we maintain a standard of learning to prepare them for their future which in many cases will include moving from this area.

My Project

Because I am the reading teacher that services students grades K-6 currently, I looked for book sets that I could use with students in groups so that I can easily serve more students. We can see the construction of our new school from some areas and of course, landscaping is a big deal. I chose books that would also enhance their learning on a large scale.

What is a school with reading resources.

The building was properly supplied prior to the storm and books were among the first items we attempted to salvage. However, once we moved as much as possible in one day into the building that remained, it flooded that night and we lost even more of the books and other supplies that we thought were safe for the moment. Instead, we are working with teacher funded items and donations from local businesses.
