Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Everyday is a struggle for my students. The majority of my students do not enjoy reading for pleasure. Their struggle in reading shows across all subject areas. Reading is the foundation for all learning.
The Intensive Reading class that I teach is the lowest level of reading.
Students are taught at a third grade level. The majority of the students have learning disabilities and/or English Language Learners. The students come from economically disadvantaged homes. They do not have the resources and support at home to enhance literacy skills.The students cannot take advantage of after school tutoring or the use of the public library due to the lack of proper transportation. Students live too far from local resources to walk. We can help lower the drop out rate by giving these students the skills to pass each grade level and eventually graduate high school. Students who do not pass state standardized test in high school have a higher chance of dropping out. I want to give them the skills and self esteem to succeed.
My Project
The materials I am requesting will allow students to read materials that are of interest to them. Students will be able to use the materials cooperatively or work individually. Students will work on comprehension skills and be able to learn new skills for various genres of leveled readers.
My students will improve reading comprehension across all subject areas.Students will be able to pass state standardized test.
Overall they will increase their love of reading for a lifetime. My students will increase their self esteem and further succeed in life.
