Point is a very diverse school with more than 25% reduce lunch and low income families. We have over 60 students under the IDEA 97 plan. My school is in desperate need for a storage building. The Gym is being use to store Racks of Chairs, Large Tables, Carts, Bins and Boxes. It is not done on purpose, it is just that my school does not have any space available to place these items. I have tried to clean up the back of the stage but that is now full as well. I'm concern my students may get hurt with the furniture. They love to come to participate in Physical Education but the space is becoming very limited and there is also the safety issue of one of the chairs falling and hurting one of my students. I like to make group and team activities to physically challenge my students to move and learn new skills but that is also limited. A lot of the games have to be modified due to the items in the gym. Also, I'm staring a basketball team as an extra activity to motivate and build self esteem, encourage improvement in academics and proper behavior. This is an item that the students will benefit by having the space necessary to exercise, learn new skills and utilize the all the gym to participate in different activities. The storage building will be place outside and it will be out of the way, so that the children can enjoy the gym without having to worry on safety.
