Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My scholars begin school eager to learn and expand their abilities to communicate effectively. The challenge comes in offering them new ways to express themselves, i.e., sign language and picture boards. Both forms of communication are visual and need to be demonstrated in realistic settings.
I teach at a large urban public school.
The majority of the scholars attending the school are facing socio-economic challenges; many also face language barriers, as their home language is Spanish. My scholars have a wide range of educational needs; all qualify to receive Special Education services. They range in age from 3 to 5 years old. The majority have a Speech/ Language disorder; however, many also have additional challenges (developmental delays, motor delays, cerebral palsy).
My Project
The resources that I am requesting include a digital camera, a digital video camera, and a projector. These resource will enable my scholars to use technology as a whole group in order to develop language. They will be able to see each other and themselves using sign language to communicate. My scholars will be able to record each other and take pictures of each other, we can then display the pictures whole group or for parents at parent nights and or conferences.
In using digital technology, my scholars will be able to advance their language and communicative skills.
My scholars enjoy seeing themselves in pictures and in video, by providing this technology, my scholars will be further encouraged to expand their language.
