Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember being called to the chalkboard to show your work or participate in a game? A lot has changed. The chalkboard classroom experience is now accompanied by projected digital experiences that include 3D imaging and usage of dice rolls, protractor measurements, and algorithm calculations.
My students are diverse learners from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds.
My students attend a magnet school that fosters cooperative learning. They are all 21 Century learners who are accustomed to numerous digital experiences in their daily lives. Now that can happen in the math classroom, too, with advances in curriculum implementation and technology. The addition of the projector will allow greater opportunities for collective discourse of math concepts, along with the interactive digital experience that my students crave.
My Project
We are implementing a new math program that is complete with online resources for teachers, students, and families. The online software has wonderful interactive resources, tools, and games that correlate to the program. With the computer projector I will be able to better model the lesson activities that my students may experience in their practice books or other computers they may have access to use. We will be able to engage in discourse as all students will be able to view demonstrations of lesson activities, games, and peer sharing.
We live in a digital age, and now the needs of digital learners need to be addressed in the classroom.
A projector is an ideal teaching tool for their needs. It is inexpensive compared to Promethean or Smart boards being installed in some classrooms. The computer projector will allow my students to have a very similar interactive experience during math lessons as they do with a Promethean board. Plus, when technology malfunctions as it does from time to time, the projector can easily be put away and students can use the chalkboard. The projector my class is requesting is compact and portable so that it may be used in the classroom, or a meeting room where students can share their digital learning with classmates and parents, or at family math meetings throughout the school year. Thank you for seeing the value in this learning tool as I do. Your support is greatly appreciated
