Wireless Tablet for Latin Class

My students need a wireless tablet to make their exciting Latin lessons even more engaging.

My Students

My high school students love our LCD projector and the Latin lessons projected from my computer. But they say the lessons would be "really cool" like the "Geometry teacher's class" if we had a wireless tablet.

Our students are in a low-wealth, rural area of North Carolina.

About 50% are African-American. As Latin students they have aspirations of becoming doctors and lawyers, or at least college and university graduates. Many of them will be the first in their families to graduate from high school, no less attend college. A digital generation that has grown up with computers, video games, and powerful cell phones, they find it much easier to learn and pay attention when lessons are interactive and involve the use of technology.

My Project

My students and I will be able to use the Elmo Wireless Tablet to control computer applications and make notes on a SMART Board™ interactive whiteboard or any computer-projected image from anywhere in the classroom. Wireless technology will allow us to present from up to 30 feet (9.1 meters) away, and it will allow students to give feedback or solve a problem using the slate from their desks. Part of the tablet will act like a wireless mouse that can be used from anywhere in the classroom.

Student achievement in Latin class and their interest in Latin has risen ever since we received an LCD projector through Donors Choose.

By donating this wireless tablet, you will be increasing student engagement in Latin through the use of technology. Latin helps students in all their other academic courses because it improves literacy. Students of Latin remember English terms and vocabulary better, learn grammar, and learn how to memorize.
