Learning The Parts Of A Flower: Painting Like O'Keeffe

My students need water colors, water color pencils, paper and brushes to help them learn about the part of the flower.

My Students

Do you remember how hard it was to learn all the different parts of a flower? Through the artist Georgia O'Keeffe I can inspire my fourth grade students to learn and remember the parts of the flower!

My students are facing many challenges.

They are trying to overcome and learn new materials. These students are excited about art and I want to incorporate some of the science standards to help them learn. They are struggling with have the basic materials needed to teach. My students are willing to learn, they just need the right materials to help inspire a change.

My Project

These resources will allow me to teach the part of a flower through the eyes of Georgia O'Keeffe. O'Keeffe's artwork used a zoomed in view of the flower. I can teach the students about all the parts of the flower while teaching them how to draw and paint. The watercolors pencils will allow the detail needed to draw all the part of the flower and it will also introduce a new art material that most students do not get the chance to see. I want to inspire students and show them that art can be created from any subject. The watercolors and brushes will allow us to paint whole flowers. I want to give my students a fun way to learn about flowers and connect it to their science standards. The paper will allow me to teach this lesson to all of my fourth grade students and it will allow me to use both watercolor pencils and watercolors. The brushes will be their tool for learning. From this list I will be able to do 2 different activities.

This project is extremely important.

It will allow me the ability to connect science and art through the eyes of Georgia O'Keeffe. It will allow me to teach science and art to a group of students who need all the extra help that I can give. I love teaching art and allowing students to use new materials like watercolor pencils. I want my students to grow the same passion as I do, so an activity like this will help foster that passion.
