Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Save us from worksheets and textbooks! We future mathematicians have a thirst for colorful visuals, hands-on models we can manipulate and explore, challenges that we can solve both individually and together, and stories that entertain and help us connect with the world!

Many of my students come to me below grade level at math and with a great deal of anxiety about it!

With the right tools, however, I am able to help students overcome their hesitation and master math concepts! I teach 4th grade in a high need, low income school. My students' success is largely due to the use of proven teaching techniques that are effective for all learners but especially English language learners which make up more than half of our population of students. The other huge factor in their success is their motivation, and understanding that their learning is tied to life outside the classroom: past, present, and most importantly, future! My classroom is structured on the belief that all students deserve a quality education and can achieve! We just need support getting the materials we need to make learning engaging and effective for all students.

My Project

I am requesting a variety of math manipulatives such as fraction bars, circles, pizzas and apples, interactive activities such as the Place Value Equivalency Puzzles, and colorful visual resources such as Fraction & Decimal Number Line, Coordinate Grid Chart, Guess My Number and other charts and supplies to make math meaningful and engaging. The magnetic chart holders will allow me to display the visuals prominently for students to access. I am eager to help them grow and master the grade-level math standards with the right materials! These supplies, in addition to the books and write-and-wipe graphing boards, will make instruction easier for all struggling learners to understand. Students will also be able to manipulate them during their group, partner, and individual work. By having these resources accessible for them to see and touch, I can reinforce learning in ways that keep their interest.

Help my students become master mathematicians by getting them excited and experienced!

Many students may avoid math because they feel they are "not good at it." As adults, we know the importance of math understanding in everyday living. With the right combination of teaching techniques, motivation and resources, much progress can be made to master and even enjoy math! The addition of generous donors to the mix changes lives forever. Thank you!
