My Students

The Band has grown in 4 years from a total of 20 students of very low performing players to 115 players that range from beginning to advanced. The students are taught with numerous resources however, have never had the opportunity to hear or critique their performances.

My students are very energetic, excited, and motivated.

The school is located in a low income neighborhood of North Carolina. The students are faced with many obstacles on a regular basis at home and in their communities. The students are eager to learn and love to perform and demonstrate their talents to the public. The students have recently been recognized by the local community by being asked to perform at a professional sports game. 80% of the students in the band are at or above grade level compared to lower averages in other fine arts and extra-curriculum classes and activities.

My Project

The Band does many performances throughout the year including Winter, and Spring Concerts, Community performances, and various outreach projects. The students have given their dedication to provide wonderful music for the community, however the students have never had a chance to listen and enjoy the music they produce. Because of the financial situation of the school many parents are unable to attend the concerts because they have to work to support their family or they do not have transportation. Many instructional tools can be used with the requested resources.The lack of resources in the past has not allowed for the opportunity for the band to listen and understand the technical instructions given by the teacher throughout learning. My students need quality recording equipment for instruction and reflection. With your donation student achievement will be enhanced and music that students produce will stay with them for a lifetime.

As a young person I loved to see and hear the results of my hard work.

My students have never had this opportunity. With your donation we will be able to allow students to review and reflect on their hard work. Parents who are unable to attend concerts because of lack of transportation, or work will be able to listen to their talented children. Please understand the importance of these devices and how they will help enhance the band program.
