My students are experiencing larger class sizes with less one-on-one help. Students are adjusting to the larger class sizes and organization is something my second graders learn fast! While we focus on organization and student responsibility, students still lose their math and reading pages.
I teach second grade in a suburban area in Northern California.
My students will greatly benefit from having a document scanner because it will allow them to replace lost, damage or re-do classroom assignments that are only provided one for each student. Our motto for our class is if we make a mistake WE FIX IT but with the lack of extra resources makes it hard to fix some assignments at times! The students at our school scored a 941 on last year's standardized test. We beat out all of the other schools in our district, county, and surrounding counties, too!
My Project
Last year my students benefited from an ELMO that we got through the DonorsChoose.org program. The ELMO has brought my lessons to life. The ELMO has allowed for those "teachable moments" that the currently get lost because of the lack of technology to show student work to the whole class without running to the office to make a transparency!
I use the ELMO to teach all subjects in my classroom and until now have had to have kids redo assignments or lost assignments using the ELMO and a transparency. With a document scanner, which scans both fronts and backs, the students will now be able to complete their own assignments. There will not longer be a mad dash to the office every time we need a copy of a student assignment!

The ELMO has been an excellent technological tool that has empowered my students and has prepared them for greater education and ultimately to be well-rounded citizens to lead our next generation. The addition of a document scanner will help us succeed even more.
