Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Pre-Med club to the rescue! First Aid and CPR certified students are needed in town because most of our students are responsible for siblings or other young family members for extended periods of times so that parents or guardians can work the extended hours needed to provide for their families.
Our students are from a middle school that has 932 students grades 6-8 and has a very high percentage of Hispanic students and high percentage of free or reduced lunch.
Our students have a very big responsibility when they go home. I want my Pre Med club members to lead the way in educating these students 40 at a time in preparing them to get first aid and CPR certified just to be prepared in case something happens while they are caring for their younger siblings.
My Project
These 12 and 13 year old students are given a big task at such a young age to provide a safe and secure environment for loved ones while the adults work late shifts to provide for their families. Since they take the on the role of care taker, it would be a great help if these students were trained in first aid and certified in CPR in case an event would arise. It is better to over prepare the students for any situation that may occur rather than risk doing nothing. This certification will also open up other opportunities that require CPR certifications such as a certified babysitter and life guards. Being hired for any job will give our students an opportunity to develop job skills for real world experiences. This opportunity will get some of our students off of the streets during the summers and give them a chance to make some money and more importantly gain job experience. We want to develop leaders and this opportunity will help us start a chain reaction in leadership.
Any help in purchasing these workbooks and teacher edition will be beneficial to our Pre Med club so we can start a wave of certifying students.
We want to start preparing 40 students at a time for the CPR certification test every 2 months during the school year. Our ultimate goal is to get enough money to purchase the manikins and certify our sponsors to be on campus instructors to be able to certify the students more frequently.
