We all know that not all shoes fit the same feet. Well the same is true for books! Students need to find books that fit their levels and interests just right. Reading is simply not a one size fits all skill.
The students in my first grade class are growing stronger in their reading skills each day.
They practice reading lots of different stories to build their reading comprehension and fluency daily.
Even though all 22 students are in the same first grade class, their reading levels range greatly. They love reading books that are the right fit for them. This means they can read all the words and find books that match their reading purposes and interests. Unfortunately, our current resources are mostly geared toward students reading at grade level. As a result, some of the students in the class have limited access to quality reading material that is at their level.
My Project
With these guided readings books, I will be able to successfully teach small group reading lessons. I can provide resources to challenge my students who are reading at a higher level, and support my students who need more beginning reading practice. All my students will have access to literature at their level and enjoy more exciting books! As a result of these books, their confidence will grow and their skills will strengthen.
One size certainly does not fit all when it comes to reading books.
How can I really reach all my students needs without resources to support their specific levels? These reading books will provide a solid literacy foundation for my first graders as well as plant the seed for a lifetime of reading adventures!
