Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember how you felt when the teacher read you a story? My students are enjoying picking up new books to read and always ask me to read to them. I would like for students to be able to hear and see the book pages at eye level.
I am a veteran teacher, returning to the classroom after six years, who enjoys reading to the students.
I teach second grade at an At-Risk low economic area school in Texas. I am a regular classroom teacher with 18 students that also includes inclusion students. Having a carpet in my room not only allows the students to listen to a story as a group, but allows them to read together. This carpet will also allow the inclusion teacher a space to work with students too.
My Project
Having a carpet in our classroom would allow us to read together as a group in a more closed-in environment. Reading to a whole class while they are sitting at their desk doesn't allow the students to interact and enjoy the pictures and words in the books being read. Isn't listening to a book being read aloud more enjoyable when you can see the pictures along with the words? Isn't it fun to read to a friend? Having a carpet would make the experience of reading better for all the students.
As a teacher who was also a reading teacher, I feel having a larger carpet in the classroom allows for better learning, not only in reading, but all subjects being taught.
The students are able to see and hear within a short distance and enjoy closeness to the teacher.
