My Students

Do you remember what it was like to spend time with your family reading a book or playing a game? Some of my students have not had the opportunity to play a board game after dinner with their parents. This project combines playing board games and practicing reading.

I am the reading the specialist for third grade students at a school with a high free and reduced lunch population.

Most of the students I see have reading difficulties. This project will not just benefit the 45-50 students I see daily, but our whole third grade. My goal is to promote family literacy through out grade level.

My Project

I am requesting five sets of reading board games. The sets vary based on reading components. Each set has a different reading objective. The plan for the project is to rotate the games between classes. Each week four or more students per classroom will have the opportunity to take a game home to play with their family. This in effect will be a fun way to promote family time and practice valuable reading skills.

This project is important because it not only promotes literacy but it promotes the family.

The idea is to get families to spend more time together doing something meaningful. The overall effect will be an increase in reading practice.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
