My Students

Classroom= A Yurt....Small School=Needs Technology With no student computers and no means of technology, an overhead multimedia projector will allow the student exposure and gain an understanding of the web and other supportive educational technologies.

My students are amazing and I know all teachers say that...but my students are truly amazing.

We are an ELOB school that focuses on the EL (Expeditionary Learning model) and support it with OB (Outward Bound) activities. We spend a lot of time in our mountain environment, but have no/little exposure to technologies and multimedia resources. We still use our 1987 Encyclopedias for research. My students demand more technology, but I don't have the funds to support it personally. Our test scores show high levels of reading and writing (because that is what we have) and struggle in sciences and social studies due to the lack of current materials/technologies. Our school consist of a old school house(K-2), an updated barn turned into a 3-5 grade classroom and my classroom(yurt-see pic) for 6th-8th grade. With a total of 66 kids. We don't have the nice building, or the newest curriculum, but we do have an amazing community with amazing student and I want to make them well-rounded students.

My Project

A multimedia projector will allow me to use the one and only working computer in the classroom and turn it into 18+ computers. Allowing students to learn from the Internet, which they will use as a media resource and begin to understand technologies around them. I would use the projector everyday and for multiple subjects. As an EL (Expeditionary Learning) school we learn through major concepts and research self-discovered topics and related subjects. Example-Egypt...Construction-Pyramids (Geometry-physics) Gold (currency-math). All of our curriculum comes from our topics of research and without adequate technologies our research stops with our limited resources.We still use our 1987 Encyclopedias as our primary resource. After 8th grade our students go to the local HS. It's has been documented and well spoken,that the only thing our students lack is technology. Or students really struggle when in HS, because of the large amount of multi-media research and our student know little. I want to change this.

It will make a school wide difference.

Having this projector will allow K-8 full Internet visual access and allow all teachers the ability to teach with the resource of technology. Students will begin to become familiar with the WWW and begin to understand and use it as a tool. Words cannot describe the true need of this tool and I ask you from the bottom of my heart. Please support this request. My kids needs this exposure and resource. Please support our school.
