Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Let's Go Stanford, Let's Go! My 1st grade, Stanford-themed, classroom is full of mathematicians waiting to explore, break-down, and recreate numbers. Help me fulfill their yearning for learning.

My school is a tuition-free public charter school that serves an under-resourced community.

The goal of our school is to equip our students with the skills, knowledge base, passion, and good character to succeed in our world. Their socioeconomic status is not an excuse; our families and students are dedicated to working hard and achieving all their goals, no matter how big or small.

My Project

My students love math--they get excited to participate in math lessons and centers. Their passion is evident; however, there are times their passion is tainted by frustration. Math can be an abstract concept, especially to 5-6 year old students. Help me make math come to alive for my students. Manipulatives are the best way to help students master and develop a deep understanding of math standards. Dice and flash cards will help my students understand the inverse relationship between addition and subtraction. They will then have an easier time memorizing math facts--a basic skill they need to achieve by the end of 1st grade. Money is another crucial math skill students need to master but find challenging. Having engaging and educational money centers will help my students practice real life skills of composing/decomposing different monetary amounts.

I want my students to keep loving math as they go on in their academic careers; I never want to hear my students say, "I don't like math because it's too hard!" There are so many stories of people that shy away from math in high school and college due to confidence issue--don't let this happen to my students!

Help them love and understand math concepts. There may be future math majors in my classroom, we just need to help them grow.
