Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Help us read independently when our teacher is busy with other kids! Kindergarten students usually can't read to themselves, at least not truly engaging storybooks.

My students are 5-6 years old that attend a Title 1 PreK-K campus.

They are energetic, wiggly and fun! Their energy often causes them to choose other centers over library center. Primarily because they cannot read to themselves and they don't want to sit and just "look at" a book.

My Project

Having the TAG readers and books in the library center will accomplish drawing the students to that center during choice time. The TAG system consists of "pens" that you use like a mouse on a computer to click on words & pictures in TAG storybooks. The pen has a speaker and/or headphones and the books are read aloud through this system. There are also games to be played that are relevant to the specific stories. This technology will allow my students to choose and read stories independently of me. Each student will also have a 10-15 minute turn per week to use the systems during our literacy rotations.

Learning to read, and loving to read is a foundation for future learning in all other subject areas.

My students deserve every opportunity possible to enhance and practice their reading skills. The more ways I can approach their reading instruction the more successful they will be!
