Support For Students With Autism

My students need a document camera to enhance their visual perception of all teacher presented materials and to motivate them to participate fully in class activities.

My Students

Just imagine how my students will feel when their finished work is published on a document reader for others [teachers, students, parents and community stakeholders] to see. They will have the feeling of being great achievers, indeed! That is what I want to achieve with my autistic students.

My students are no doubt great future hopes.

At the moment, they are diagnosed with autism which mostly is associated with some distinct disorders like visual impairment. Our school is a Title 1 school. My students are moderate to severe disabilities special education students. My students belong to the low income family bracket and as such they qualify to receive free/fully subsidized school meals.

My Project

I will use the document reader in all lessons to convert any electronic file or printed matter to a form suitable for use by my students who are diagnosed with visual impairment and attention deficit. As future leaders who are equipped with skills to live independent lives in community and society in general, I am grooming them to be able to use their words effectively in communication by honoring them to share/explain their works to a specific audience using a document reader.

The opportunity to utilize a document camera in the day to day delivery of academic instructions to my great students will positively motivate them to show improvement in areas like skill improvement/mastery, technological awareness, school attendance, communication, social interaction, class participation, comprehension and general behavior.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
