Math Mon-Stars

My students need math puzzles, games, and other activities relating to place value, money, and test prep review. In addition, my students need a leveled library.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Since the majority of my students are English learners, it's critical that they are exposed to hands-on math activities rather than just solely to the curriculum.

For the past four years, I've had the wonderful opportunity to teach second and third grade.

I teach in a low-socioeconomic area that offers free lunch services to 100% of its students. Roughly 90% of my students are English Language Learners who don't have the same opportunities and resources as other students.

My Project

These materials will impact my students directly by allowing them to learn math concepts through a hands-on approach. This year, my students appear to be far below grade level in math which is why they need to be exposed to math concepts in a variety of different ways. In addition, this year I will be teaching far below grade level reading students. At my school, we divide our reading students based on comprehension and fluency. The guided reading library will help my students reach their individual reading goals at their own pace. The library consists of leveled reading material that is at their level which truly helps them comprehend what they are reading. This will make a difference in their motivation level since many students feel that they are unable to read the material in the reading curriculum.

With your help, you will make it possible for my students to grow as learners in both reading and mathematics.

You will help them become engaged in reading and math for the first time in their lives. In addition, you will show them that someone is truly interested in helping a population of students who are desperately in need. You will prove that although we may struggle with our budget, there are caring, compassionate people who want our students to prosper.
