My students need fitness reporter software and xtreme fitness game to help prepare and track their results for the California State FitnessGram testing in PE; ALL students at our school will benefit!

My Students

Testing, testing, testing! Did you know that we also do state-required, standardized testing in California PE classes? Our testing covers the areas of flexibility, cardio/respiratory endurance, strength and muscle endurance, and results can be viewed at the California State Education website.

Although FitnessGram testing is currently only reported for 4th, 7th, and 9th grades, at our 1350-student middle school, we will be using this evaluation tool at the 6th-8th grade levels 1-2 times per school year.

While many of our students have acceptable fitness levels, our PE department has determined that our students need to improve, specifically, in the areas of upper-body strength and cardio-vascular fitness, based on our previous scores. To that end, we do a variety of activities (including rubric runs and physical fitness training). For those students who are not meeting FitnessGram standards, or who are meeting standards, but would like to continue to improve, we need to find additional methods of preparation, and a more detailed method of record-keeping.

My Project

The "Fitness Xtreme Skillastics" game is "specifically designed for middle school and high school students. It enables 1 to 100 children of varying ages and fitness levels to participate and enjoy being active at one time" Because this game specifically focuses on the skill areas we test for FitnessGram testing, it will be a fun, interesting way to prepare for the various skills students need to exhibit, in addition to our current practice of specific testing procedures. Currently, we keep track of each student's FitnessGram testing scores on "blue cards," which are handwritten by the individual teachers, and passed along year-to-year. The "Fitness Reporter Pro Software" will allow each PE staff member to use computer technology to do even more specific recordkeeping for individual students (including such things as percentiles, which our current system does not do). Each teacher will be able to use this software, as it is school-licensed.

Every teacher and every student in our school's PE department will benefit from this project (not just my 250 students)--for a continuing impact on over 1350 students and their families.

Our overarching goal in Physical Education is to promote "Fitness for Life," and by providing the means to prepare and keep more specific records, we can help students to develop their own, realistic, fitness goals and the means to achieve them.
