My students need 8 sets of chapter books for their classroom library to challenge their reading and move on from picture books!

My Students

Do you remember how exciting it was reading your first chapter book? My third graders have a variety of chapter books they want to read but their classroom library prevents them from enjoying such chapter books because the library is from when I taught kindergarten and first grade.

I have 25 third graders that love reading and ask me daily when I will be getting new chapter books for the classroom.

They attend a Blue Ribbon, California Distinguished School but like most districts in the state, have faced budget cuts which limits the funding the school receives and the amount of money teachers can put into the school year.

My Project

I have been keeping a list of chapter book series that my students have mentioned so that I can hopefully give them the classroom library they deserve to have. By having such books, students can partake in age appropriate books during Readers Workshop or personal reading time.

This project is important to me because it is not their fault our classroom library is for kindergarten and first grade.

Due to budget cuts I have switched grade levels over the past few years jumping from kindergarten to first and now to third. Last year due to budget cuts, I did not have a teaching position in the district. I am limited on what I can financially purchase for the class.
