Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

“He who rejects change is the architect of decay. The only human institution which rejects progress is the cemetery.” (by Harold Wilson, British politician). My students continue to prove Mr. Wilson wrong!

My classroom is in a small Texas town.

Despite our high percentage of economically disadvantaged students, we received a "recognized" status from the state two years in a row. I work in the computer lab with grades 3-6, who are "digital natives" hungry to learn more!

My Project

The clipboards will be used for writing and storage for my sixth graders who visit the cemetery next door to us. We take digital pictures and upload them to www.findagrave.com. The clipboards will also be used by my other grade levels during walking field trips around the campus to take notes as we learn to use our digital cameras and GPS systems that we received last year.

This excerpt from our local newspaper explains more about this ongoing project: "Ms. O also has found a way to approach the topic of death and grief, often tricky subjects for young children.

Rather than shy away from it, Ms. O meets the subject head-on. Her students, she says, are learning the importance of honoring a person's memory and the grieving process."
