My Students

Science is a story. In life science we start with the story of the cell and end with planetary wide ecosystems. We remember stories. The challenges is for our students to organize the information they are gaining in a year of science into three story books.

Our students are very energetic learners.

They will arrive at school early and want to stay late. There is a wonderful energy with how much students love going to school. However, there can be frustration for students when they cannot afford some supplies for school. It is discouraging when everyone else has what they need and you are just trying to get by.

My Project

The exciting part of our resources for this story book making project we already have. We have a book binding machine and enough comb binders to bind the books. We also have some art supplies. However, from the beginning of the year students have had problems purchasing binders and dividers. We have made our own dividers out of file folders, and this is a good temporary solution. The bins are an organized place to keep the binders in our limited space and the bin sized shelf helps show the students that we respect their work and will keep the binders organized.

Science is often presented as a series of unconnected facts.

Students will continuously take these connected facts and turn them into a story that showcases their work and creative story telling. Students will connect the content to their own lives by tying the story of science to something meaningful to them.
