My Students

Every day students walk into our school and view reading as a punishment. They have not yet been exposed to the joys reading can bring. My job, as a teacher, is to show them how amazing reading really is. They deserve the opportunity to read books that expose them to new places and experiences.

Unfortunately, our school does not have a school library.

In order to help my students see the joys of reading, though, they must be able to choose from and read books that they truly CAN love. That is why it is so imperative that I, as a teacher, find those books for them. My students do not have books at home, cannot go buy their own, and do not have transportation to the public library. They need a library available to them at school and that is what I am trying to create. My students need to be able to check out books, take them home, and truly enjoy them. Only then will they truly be able to see that reading is an amazing experience, not a punishment.

My Project

In order to have a successful library, I have chosen books that are extremely engaging and interesting. These books will hook any reader- even those who consistently state they "hate reading." They range from science fiction to realistic fiction to graphic novels. With these books, I will be able to show my students that, contrary to their beliefs, there ARE good books out there. They will be able to see that reading can be and is enjoyable.

I cannot even begin to explain the importance of having accessible books for my students.

Every child deserves the chance to read a good book, yet mine seem to have missed out on that opportunity. Your donation will give them that chance. With these books, my students will not only be exposed to good books, they will be able to enjoy them. They will be able to see that reading is an amazing experience, one that they can and should enjoy for years to come.
