My Students

Most of my students entered Kindergarten with little to no knowledge of even their alphabet. Now, only three weeks into school, they are begging to learn to read.

My students attend a Title 1 school and face challenges as five year olds that most of us would never dream of even as adults.

My students have so much potential, but have never experienced the essentials that they need to fulfill that...until now. My Kindergarten class is excited to be able to "read like first graders" by the end of the year and are ready to take the challenge. Most of them will have to make over 2 years worth of learning growth in order to meet this goal.

My Project

I am requesting a leveled fiction and non-fiction library for my students. The collection will allow them to use their independent reading time and time reading with me to the greatest extent. By having access to books that meet them where they are, their confidence in reading, and therefore the excitement about books, will skyrocket!

This project will instill in my 5 year old students the love for reading that I was lucky enough to receive from sources outside of school.

My goal for the year is to have every single student reading at or above grade level and to have every student excited to explore books and the imaginative and creative world that they provide.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
