Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students do great work - I need to show it off! My classroom was split in half to create another classroom. In doing so, the bulletin boards went to the other classroom and I got a very large piece of drywall. The boards will create a warm learning environment for my students.

I teach inner city students in Illinois.

They overcome many obstacles at home and in their neighborhood to come to school everyday. The majority receive free lunches, and many are homeless. Though our environment can be challenging, most of my students are simply trying to get their education and move onto a better place in life.

My Project

It is imperative to an educational environment to display current student work. Not only does it provide students with the satisfaction of a job well done, it helps provide a model of how to complete exceptional work. Also, our school is old and not in the best of condition. This environment can be detrimental to a child's education - I often hear the kids say that the school doesn't care, so why should they? I try to do what I can in my classroom to change this opinion. By providing a warm, welcoming, and comfortable classroom I'm telling my students that I care about you and want you to thrive. Bulletin boards greatly improve the look of a classroom. A plain piece of drywall now becomes a colorful area filled with educational materials and a celebration of academic success.

Many of my students do not have adults in their lives who support them.

In many cases, I might be the only person who says hello to them...I'm glad you're here. These bulletin boards will allow me to spruce up a very dilapidated classroom. It will help me show the students that I'm proud of the work you do and I want to show it off. I will be able to say to the students I went to Donors Choose because I wanted something nice for all of you.
