My students need a new computer to use for online research and to take AR reading quizzes without the frustration of crashes or long load times.

My Students

As educators know, time in a classroom is a priceless commodity. My students spend long periods in front of outdated, slow computers, waiting for programs to load, only to be disappointed many times a week by a crash that must be "fixed" by rebooting the computer. Again wasting valuable time.

We are a small rural school with a limited budget.

We have a great location in one way. Our students are farm kids who know about nature and agriculture first hand, but we are long distances from cultural and historical sites. So being able to go to these places "virtually" would be a great benefit for our student population. Many of our students' families cannot afford to travel or even take vacations. We must travel by computer.

My Project

With faster more efficient computers, I can show my students the world outside our small community. Our rural communities are fast becoming ghost towns. We need to equip rural children to live in the high tech society. Many of them will never dream of a better life unless we can make them aware of the choices they have. They can decide to work to make the rural areas more prosperous, so that people can live here and still make a good living for their families. The encouragement to read that the AR Program gives them will make them better readers, hence better students who are able to finish high school and even complete college.

Third graders are not very patient sometimes.

They read a book, and they want to take the test, so they can see how well they did. Then they can read another book and test again. My students will be able to get quick feed back on books they have read with the AR tests. We will not need to wait and wait to see the results or wait in line to take a test because the computer is so slow to load. They be excited to see the web sites quickly as we are trying find out more about our topics.
