My students need 12 hands on and interactive Literacy Centers that will challenge them and provide extra practice.

My Students

This year I have a great group of students. I have students at all levels and styles of learning. With this diverse group my challenge is to reach each and every student in any way possible that I can. I finally found a solution. The solution to this is well developed and diverse Liter

I work hard in my classroom to create a caring community.

This is the year where my student’s diversity will help create and enhance our community. One of the diversities that I face is a student who is from Romania who does not know English yet. I teach at a Title 1 school which means I have a great curriculum to follow but I am limited to the resources at all of my different levels of knowledge. By having these literacy centers my student’s will be challenged when need, provided practice, and be provided support to enhance their academic learning.

My Project

The following items are being requested to establish Literacy Centers in my classroom. Literacy Centers are a focus in 1st grade this year due to the academic benefits. In well planned and executed Literacy Centers students have the opportunity to practice important reading, writing, listening, and effective speaking skills. Literacy Centers also allow the teacher to pull small groups to offer even more one on one support. Please read the attached article for more data that supports the use of Literacy Centers and discusses the educational benefits. These Literacy Centers meet state standards and are even cross curriculum which also promotes higher academic achievement.

I feel that my students will benefit greatly from the hands-on reading, writing, and comprehension activities that I have requested.

My students would benefit from any of these items. These hands on centers will challenge, unify my students with cooperative groups and get then excited about learning..
