My students need chain links, pattern blocks, scales, measuring tools, number sequencing puzzles, graphing trays, and more to enhance our new Math series.
Help us take a "hands-on" approach to learning. My students are in need of manipulatives! We want to be able to count and sort and measure, but we don't have the needed supplies. Being able to touch and manipulate will open their eyes to a new concrete way of learning.
My class of 21 students is made up of 4 and 5 year-olds in school for the first time.
They are like little sponges, soaking up everything! They are very eager to learn. We are in a high-poverty, inner-city school and don't have a lot of parental support at home. This is why it is so important that the kids understand "the basics" of Math being taught in the classroom.
My Project
My students need Math manipulatives and other learning tools to work with including pattern blocks, number rings, stamp pads, color & shape bingo, and puzzles. We will be able to have complete sets of manipulatives. Some different sizes and colors, others different shapes. We will practice sequencing, family groups, colors, graphing and much more. We will be able to learn Math in a fun, "non-educational" way. If they think they are just "playing" they will learn so much more.
With recent budget cuts, class materials were affected.
My classroom has not had new materials in about 5 years, and the few sets we have are dwindling. I don't feel enough importance was given to Pre-K when supplies were ordered, so we don't have all the necessary tools for learning. With these new supplies, I know these kids will be smarter and have a great educational foundation. Our school typically scores poorly in Math, so these manipulatives will give us a "hands-on" approach to learning.
