My Students

We realize that students can't learn and teachers can't educate students unless they are healthy. Our goal is to educate students about health and wellness in a positive manner.

Our school has been identified as the most obese - "fattest" middle school in the county.

I teach Teen Living to approximately 200 seventh and eighth grade students in a rural, low income/high poverty community. Two-thirds of the student body receives free or reduced lunch benefits. This grant would allow my students to become more physically active by using the television in conjunction with a Wii gaming system.

My Project

Playing video games that are physically interactive is one way of encouraging middle school students to get moving. This television connected to a Wii console, sporting game and sports kit attachments will provide a way for my class to incorporate physical fitness into our classroom.

We want our students to be able to make healthy choices and not "diet" or go to the extreme to become small.

The goal for our students is to focus on health and wellness for a lifetime.
