My Students

My students come from low income families and many do not have access to books at home. All of my students are African American.

We are a great bunch of second graders in Michigan.

We love rhythm and predictable patterns. Our teacher spends a lot of her own money on materials for us but there is a limit to what she can provide. We would love to sit on the carpet and listen to these CD Read Alongs. Mrs. C will hold the book for us so that we can all read along and learn the words too! Reading is so much fun!

My Project

With these CD Read Alongs, I will be able to gather my students on the carpet together for community time. We will talk about the story and then listen to it. The students are very captivated by listening to audio versions of stories and they love to learn the words and to rhyme. We will read with the CD so that we can learn the words in the book and I will teach mini-lessons using words from these stories. We will enjoy them again and again. Finally, I will plan writing activities in connection with these stories.

My students lack access to quality literature.

I want to help them get excited about reading and these CD Read Alongs are sure to do it! I know that these stories will help them build reading fluency and comprehension skills.
