This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine dancing with no music. Now press play. The beat moves you and the melody inspires you. Our new dance studio needs an iPod to buy and store our music. We're ready to rock!

My students are 9-12 graders who need the arts.

Many of our students have faced tough times early in life and need individualized education to help them succeed. Several of our students choose our school so that they can work at their own pace and graduate from high school a year earlier than they would at a traditional school. Our students are driven. Many of them are 18 and are not required by law to go to school, but they see value in earning a diploma and will work hard to get it. The mission of our school is to engage students who are no longer a part of the traditional high school setting. We work with our approximately 2,000 students to develop personalized learning plans that enable each student to move toward graduation. We support students in mastering basic skills utilizing technology and help them develop an interest in lifelong learning. Our school is continuously developing new programs to support this mission statement--and our new dance class is one of these programs.

My Project

Press Play! We've got the new dance room and, thanks to Donors Choose, and all of its supporters, we've got new books and a stereo for our beginning dance class. Now all we need is the music. An iPod Touch will allow me to download music and store songs for use in our dance class. The portable device is ideal for a school setting.

My school was able to create a studio to house music, martial arts and dance classes before the California budget crisis.

The studio has been sitting empty for months. Students at our school have been involved fundraising for the mirrors in the dance room. Donors Choose helped us find funds for our books. The last piece of the puzzle is the music. This is where you can help. Help students experience dance and music, and develop a lifelong love of the arts by allowing them to Press Play!
