My Students

Not having the ability to read other people's emotions, feelings, and mood can lead to a very lonely life. Students on the autism spectrum and students with developmental disabilities find social situations confusing and uncomfortable which lead to very few friendships.

My students are faced with the daily challenge of reading others' emotions, feelings, and moods.

My students on the autism spectrum struggle with friendships because of this lack of social awareness. These students want to build and maintain relationships with their peers, however, their lack of social skill awareness prevents them from reading social cues and reacting appropriately in certain situations. Please help to give them the opportunity to create lifelong friendships.

My Project

Students with autism and other developmental disabilities have difficulty building relationships, interacting with peers, and demonstrating appropriate social skills. This struggle often leads to inappropriate social behavior. Through video modeling, these students will be able to act out appropriate behaviors with their peers. They will then have the opportunity to watch and refer to these videos when they cannot come up with an appropriate reaction to a social situation. These videos will help eliminate stress and meltdowns in social situations.

The videos that we could create will be a helpful visual tool because they model key social behaviors in short clips and in real situations.

They will provide extra reinforcement needed for the students to practice modeling the rules that they have been taught. Please help my students better understand body language, social cues, and facial expressions by providing them with a visual model of correct reactions and social behavior.
