Yum! Mud Pies! Soil Testing Kits

My students need 5 soils test kits to learn about soil composition and quality.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you ever wondered what in soil makes a plant grow? With these soil testing kits, my students will not have to wonder any more!

I teach 9-12 graders in the central valley of California.

We are in the agriculture capital of the country. All of my students have chosen to take Agriculture Biology instead of regular Biology due to their interest in the agriculture field. Most of my students come from low income agricultural families. Most when they graduate from high school will be the first to attend college in their families. It is my goal to foster a love of education and encourage my students to attend college after high school. Hopefully in the field of agricultural science.

My Project

We student soil science and soil quality in my agriculture biology course. I believe in hands-on learning. By being able to bring in soil testing kits, my students will have the opportunity to view, evaluate, and make reason based decisions on the quality of their soils samples. Plus, they might even be able to see that They really don't have a black thumb! The soils around their homes is what contributes to the poor growth of plants! I hope to inspire my students to watch to investigate what they do not know, and encourage them to continue their love of learning. Also, good stewards of the Earth are needed and by showing my students how they effect the Biosphere around them, maybe they will foster a love of mother nature.

Hand on learning encourages students to be hands on learners.

Any chance I get to bring in a lab to my class, encourages my students to look one step further into their ability to be inquisitive. Pondering and questioning the world around them will hopefully encourage life long learners. Your donation will help to better the youth of California!
