My Students

Our world is getting smaller every day and understanding the music from around the world helps give students and appreciation and understanding of other cultures. Providing students with "hands on" music experiences will deepen their appreciation of the diversity of others.

My students have been brought to our community from different parts of the United States.

A few are Hispanic and a smaller number have parents that came from other countries. It is important that they learn about the many cultures around the world because our area is fast becoming very diverse. Experiencing the music through listening to and playing instruments from around the world will create a greater understanding about people, their heritage, and the traditions from other cultures.

My Project

Music from other parts of the world is a part of our curriculum. Having the instruments to play that go along with the pictures in our textbooks will make the lesson come alive and bring part of the culture of that country right into our classroom. My students will be challenged to create music from the country being studied, using the knowledge they have gained from the lesson.

Our current number of instruments from other parts of the world is limited and each year I try to add at least 1 instrument.

With our system budget being so tight I was not able to request an instrument this year, so funding this project will keep me on track to having a music room that represents music from around the world!
