My Students

Do you remember how boring it was to sit in math class and just do worksheets? Did you struggle or someone you know struggle in math class because it just wasn't fun? You can help students overcome their fears of a boring math class. A Promethean ACTIVscribe pad would do just that!

Going into middle school is daunting for many sixth grade students.

My students come from five different elementary schools, so it is not unusual for students to not know anyone in their classes at the beginning of the year. Things are made even more awkward this year because we are (finally!) starting renovations to our 30 year old building, and things are going to be a mess for the next three years. Many of my students have learning disabilities which makes the change even more difficult. They often don't have confidence in themselves and think that they just can't do math.

My Project

With the wireless tablet, we won't be confined to just standing and doing problems at the front of the room. The students that are often uncomfortable working things at the board won't need to worry. This wireless tablet will let them interact with the computer and projector right from their own seats! Math is much more interesting with the use of computers and wireless technology. No longer will we have to just sit and do problems on a worksheet. ActivSlate makes dynamic, interactive classroom experiences everyday occurrences by giving anyone who wishes to participate control of the board from anywhere in the classroom. I will be able to teach from the students' desks instead of being stuck in front of an overhead projector.

We can't let another generation of kids go by thinking that math is boring and something that only "nerds" enjoy.

Subjects, lessons, participants and participation can come alive in the classroom, and the students will realize that math can be fun!
