My Students

I am "Flip"ping out over the newest video technology! This summer I was fortunate to receive a SMARTboard in my classroom. Adding a Flip Camcorder to our classroom to use for book reviews will motivate any kid to read!

My classroom is a highly diverse public school classroom in rural southwestern Wisconsin.

Our school consists of grades 4K through fifth grade with approximately 300 students. Our current class size is 16 students. Students in our school receive most of their instruction in an all inclusive classroom. We have a high level of students who qualify for free and reduced lunch. I have found that my third grade students are eager to learn and are fascinated with all the newest technologies. Because of the economic needs in our community, most of the technology they are exposed to is through learning opportunities through school.

My Project

The Flip Camcorder will allow students to work with partners to create a movie review of the books that they read. In completing their projects, they will have to fill out a storyboard and book review graphic organizer to maximize their presentation to the class. With the use of our new SMARTboard, students will then be able to share their video reviews with the class to inspire them to read new books. Not only will we be able to create amazing book review videos, but we will also be able to use the camcorder to record science experiments and other events throughout the day to post to our website. This would be a great benefit to students who are absent, who need extra support, and who want to connect their learning with their families. The possibilities are endless!

What better way to teach students to use technology in a positive way than connecting it too a great book! The addition of a Flip camcorder to our classroom will maximize the potential of our new SMARTboard! Most students are visual learners.
