This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"History is boring" is a phrase I hear time and time again from my students. I want to give my students a chance to see History come alive by reading stories that they can connect to. If our students don't learn History, then our future as a nation is bleak.

My students come from diverse backgrounds.

They are growing up in an old and new immigrant neighborhood with students from Eastern Europe, Puerto Rico, the Middle East, the Dominican Republic, West Africa, and many more locations. With this mix of backgrounds comes inquisitive minds and curious students ready to learn and challenge their ideas.

My Project

Even though my students encounter diverse cultures everyday, they still need exposure to many more places and people through Social Studies. As a supplement to regular Social Studies instruction that they will receive in class, this book set will allow students to engage in History with novels. They will be able to connect to rich characters, see the time period through the author's description, and experience the events they are learning about through narratives.

Please help by funding this project that will allow students to experience the same joy that I and possibly you had when encountering the richness of Social Studies and History, so that my students will no longer be able to say that History is boring again.
