Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember seeing a famous piece of artwork in class only to see it again later and share what you know about the piece with someone. In my art room I try to create experiences for my students that they will remember and share with others. Visual stimulation is key to such an experience.

My students live in one of the poorest neighborhoods in New York City.

They are excited to come to school and have excellent attendance. We have a committed staff of teachers, involved parents and supportive administration. Our school is a Title 1 school which means the 99% of our students live below the poverty level and qualify for free lunch. Despite our disadvantages our school has a strong community and is determined to bridge the learning gap that inner city schools have been struggling with through the years.

My Project

As the only Visual Arts teacher in my school I see a variety of students and encounter a wide range of learning styles. I do my best to work with all my students who struggle with learning disorders or emotional issues. I love all of them and all of them love art. Using visual aids help me reach the majority of my different learners and allows them to have an experience that is their own. Having a projector in my room will open up more opportunities to use the teaching resource on the internet. So many of the museums have interactive websites and visual libraries of their collection. I will be able to share these with the students and create PowerPoint presentations.

A resource like a Panasonic projector will open up so many options to expanding the Art History piece in my classroom curriculum.

I already display a room full of posters. I use a Mona Lisa poster as a classroom management tool. After clean up I give praise to the best Mona Lisa pose. Exposing my students to Art and the masterpieces through history is so important. Thank you in advance for your help.
