My Students

I'm running out of time!! School starts in four days and I don't have several novel sets to use during small group instruction. The novel Running Out of Time, is an exciting book (not about their teacher who doesn't have novels), but a gripping story that will inspire my students.

I am a teacher in North Carolina who is teaching reading to 58 "High Poverty" level students.

I will be sharing these novels with the other teachers on my grade level (114 students total that will get the opportunity to utilize these novels). We met our AYP goals and Growth Status goals last year. I would like to keep up this trend and push my students to High Growth Status. I need novel sets in order to reach my goals!

My Project

Through the use of novels my students will have better fluency skills, comprehension skills, and improve their vocabulary. I have selected novels in which my students will be able to relate to the real world and themselves. The novel Running Out of Time will allow my students to gain experience with predicting outcomes and making connections to past cultures. Students are able to make connections to the characters in The Report Card, because not everyone makes all A's but there are some students who do make all A's. The characters in this book learn an important life lesson that I would like my students to learn.

Please, help me reach the goals that I have set for my students.

I desperately need novel sets as I have none! The bookcase in my room may contain 20 books at best. The novels will allow me to help my students pass their EOG's and feed their hungry minds!
