My Students

In this world of technology-driven entertainment and computer-based lives, I want to help my students understand the electronics they are surrounded by. Seeing circuitry in action-wires, boards and connections that pass electricity and make the items "do what they do" will help them to understand.

The students at our school come from diverse backgrounds and typically come from lower, socio-economic situations.

Nonetheless, they are eager to learn. Although my group is a talkative bunch, they are focused on the topic. Adding a boy-heavy ratio to the mix (20:8), I feel it is even more imperative this year to improve our hands-on supply of science equipment. Their eyes light up when we do any type of hands-on activity, take field trips or even leave the classroom to do a walking field trip around the building. Our community is small, but most parents are dedicated, as is the staff, to see these students succeed.

My Project

The Snap Junior Circuit Kits are ideal for letting our 4th grade students play and learn at the same time. The durability of these kits will make them a perfect candidate to replace the overused wires, D-batteries, mini bulbs and clips that work sporadically. Voted Dr. Toy's 100 Best Children's Products Winner, these kits are a great collection of materials. All parts snap easily together and are durable. All circuits are simple to build and understand. Perfect for the novice engineer and include several samples for the extra inquisitive students to spend free time building without my supervision. Experiment Examples: Flying Saucer, Music Alarm Combo, Pencil Alarm, Space War Flicker, Voice Controlled Lamp, Spin Draw, Race Game, Strobe the House Lights, Spinning Rings

This project is important because it represents the basics of science - the flow of electricity.

These kits are simple pieces of equipment that will allow the fourth grade students to explore, learn and demonstrate basic understanding of the electrical concepts. Additionally, these kits would allow those students who are very interested in this concept to excel and become inspired in science, technology engineering and mathematics.
