I am a first grade teacher at a Title 1 school in rural NC. Our school has approximately 89% that are on free or reduced lunch and come from poverty level living conditions. Regardless, we are one of the top 3 schools in our county. We can accomplish this high standard of learning be cause we are always looking for a way to improve our teaching. In a class of 25+ students, there is not a simple way of checking the entire class at one time for understanding of a taught skill. Many times, I can call on a few students to answer questions, or just give a paper/pencil assignment. Calling on one child at a time is very time consuming and the other students may be off task. Giving paper/pencil assignments is just boring sometimes. I would like to have handheld "flash boards" for each of my students. These boards are used with dry erase markers. Every student would have a board in which to write answers to asked questions. When it is time to flash the teacher, everyone could show their answer at one time. In just a second, I could get accurate and immediate feedback of my teaching from each and every child in my room. These boards could be used in every subject that I teach from reading, phonic, and writing, to math and science. Every student would be engage, on task, and actively participating. I will save time that can be used elsewhere to actually teach and get instant feedback to use for each and every child Please help me get these very useful and beneficial "flash boards" to use with my students.
