My Students

My students will grow up to a world that will expect them to be global citizens. They will need to know about other countries and how people live in those countries. My Read to Feed project will help them learn and also help families in other countries to climb out of poverty.

My school is rural and mostly Caucasian.

Students have very little contact with people from other cultures and countries. The Read to Feed program is from Heifer International. They encourage children to read about other countries and to get pledges for each book they read. After the money is collected, the group will select an animal from the Heifer catalog to provide to a family in an impoverished area of the world. My hope is that students will learn the joy of service and increase their reading skills and enjoyment.

My Project

The books that I requested are not typical books to be found in our school library. The books I requested tell about other countries and how people live in those countries. The students will learn that they are truly blessed to be living in America. My hope is that through this project they will become involved in many other ways to make this world a better place for everyone. And they will learn that the path to true happiness and fulfillment lies in service to others.

I believe that it is absolutely critical that we prepare children for the future.

They will need to function with all types of people from all cultures and parts of the world. My project will help students prepare for life beyond high school and college. These books are building blocks for this project.
