My Students

My students are constantly challenging me to introduce novels to them about animals and adventure. I have reviewed both of these novels and feel the authors will help me capture their attention.

My 5th grade class would like to read high interest novels about animals and adventure.

We are a rural farming community. During the past 8 years our area has felt the effects of the downturn in the global economy. The families in our school district have a poverty rate of 18.4%, the adults in our community have an average unemployment rate of 12.3% and our student population has a free and reduced percentage of 58.6%.

My Project

A good book can touch our lives like a good friend. I believe that by using high interest novels we can help motivate students to read and develop life long skills. I plan on using each of these novels to enhance vocabulary skills, comprehension and reading fluency.

I am lucky in that my students constantly ask to read more books.

Unfortunately, my district does not have the money to make this a reality. Reading is fundamental to a good education. Your help will ensure that my students will continue to increase their hunger to become better readers and life long learners.
