Let's face it: Technology is taking over. Students today are already frustrated with Math: "If I can't solve the problem, Google can!" I want to teach my kids that problem solving is still very real & all around us. I want to teach them that they can use technology to solve problems ON THEIR OWN!

I work in a school that is fractional points away from being Title one.

Almost 28% of our students are Low Socioeconomic status. I want these kids to have all the advantages of other, more wealthier school districts. I want them to know that technology is not just for the privileged members of society. Technology is for all and is not going away. I still have students that come into my room that don't even know how to turn on a computer. After we provide kids with their emotional needs and content information, they must also be trained on how to apply everything they know (from a novel in their head to the cure to cancer) to a source that can be shared with the world...AKA computers and the Internet.

My Project

Students, once provided with these calculators, will be able to solve problems they never knew could arise. We are to relate everything in math to real life situations. We usually do this with money...but money isn't everything! I want my kids to be able to find distances in space, understand the sizes of cells in the body and to be able to understanding functions that don't always end up with a "pretty" answer. Life isn't pretty, nor is math. Let's get real!

My kids will not only be more proficient in mathematics, though they will also understand that when people are in need, there are generous and kind people in the world that will support you with your cause.

The world is not just the classroom before them...the world is everyone and everything around us. We all need to chip in and support our fellow man!
