My Students

Having the opportunity to do hands-on activities in science gives the students ownership of their learning. You can't get that doing virtual labs.

My students are excited about learning Anatomy and Physiology.

Some may go on into the medical field. They may become doctors or nurses, who knows what the possibilities may be for these young adults. We are a low-income community which has been hit hard by these hard economic times and we need just a little help to make students' educational experience a more rewarding one.

My Project

My students need 20 cow eyes for dissection, a hands-on activity to show the complexity of the human eye. With these materials, my students will be able to learn first-hand how complicated the human eye is, through their investigation of a cow's eye. Hands-on is how science needs to be for these young adults. Through this investigation they will dissect the cornea, take a look at the lens, and see how the retina is attached to the eye.

Students need inquiry-based learning.

Having a look first-hand gives these students much more than any computer simulation. Students will benefit by learning the parts of the eye, not just from the book, but by look, touching and learning how it all fits together.
