This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are working hard to climb the mountain to and through college despite many obstacles in their paths. One of these obstacles is a lack of access to technology that could help make learning easier.
My students are extremely intelligent, capable and hard working kids.
They attend school on Mondays - Thursdays from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm and on Fridays from 8:00 am - 2:30 pm. They come to school once a month on Saturdays. Although they live in a neighborhood will dismal statistics for high school graduation, college enrollment and college completion, they all have the desire and the ability to make it to and through college. Approximately 90% of our students are low-income and 99% are African-American. 100% are college-bound.
My Project
My students need an ELMO document camera. In order to be competitive in 21st century high-quality high school and college and in their careers, my students must learn how to effectively use technology to research and communicate. This year, I will be teaching our Eighth Grade students American History and infusing technology throughout the year. An ELMO document camera will help us to be able to delve deeper into both social studies and technology topics. For social studies, we can use the ELMO to show primary documents and photographs for class analysis and discussion. We can use the ELMO to show high-quality student historical writing. We can use the ELMO to project images from my computer and walk through using various programs effectively. I already have the LCD projector necessary for this ELMO projector to work.
I know that an ELMO document camera would help me ensure my students have the skills and knowledge necessary to be successful in Eighth Grade, high school and college.
My students desperately want to go to college in the fall of 2015 and deserve to have the same access to the technology that will help them get there. Help them climb the mountain to college!
