My Students

Today's youth have a hard time looking past themselves, and my students are no different. If it doesn't directly effect them in the present, they aren't very interested. Please help me open their eyes to see just how important World War I was and its impact on our nation's history.

My students come from a variety of backgrounds, covering all parts of the socio-economic spectrum.

Our school is in an urban area with a growing poverty rate. My students are very active socially, and their social lives often are more important to them than their academic success.

My Project

My goal is to help spark my students' interest in World War I through this novel. I want my students to realize that the sacrifices these soldiers made is what helped to make our country what it is today. I want them to see the connection between what we study in history books and the impact of those events. I chose this novel because it Is centered around the Christmas Truce of WWI. The theme of setting aside your differences, whether they be political, racial, religious, etc, is a very important concept that young people today must learn in order to have a productive society.

With your help, through Tim Murphy's novel, Truce, I hope to bring a more personal approach to the teaching of World War I.

With that generation of veterans gone, I will not allow their stories to be lost as well.
